Get ready for the 23rd annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by OKX, returning to New York City from June 5 to 16. This year’s festival promises an eclectic mix of narrative and documentary films, episodic content, music, virtual reality, gaming, and audio storytelling, alongside insightful panel discussions.
Opening Night and Highlights
The festival kicks off on June 5 with the world premiere of “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge,” offering an intimate look at the iconic fashion designer’s life. This year’s lineup features over 100 films, including hard-hitting documentaries like “Hacking Hate,” “McVeigh,” and “America’s Burning,” which tackle contemporary sociopolitical issues.
Immersive Art and DeNiro Con
Tribeca Immersive will showcase eight large-scale artworks from cutting-edge digital artists at Spring Studios. From June 6 to 8, visitors can enjoy free artist talks and events. Additionally, DeNiro Con celebrates the 80th birthday of Robert DeNiro with screenings of 13 of his classic films, live discussions, and a premiere of the short film “DeNiro, New York.”
Music and Special Events
Tribeca Music debuts an online music competition featuring artists like Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, Tyla, and the Black Crowes. Screenings of music documentaries such as “They All Came Out to Montreux” and “Satisfied,” featuring Renée Elise Goldberry, highlight the festival’s vibrant musical offerings.
Spotlight Sections
The Spotlight+ section will feature conversations following screenings of music documentaries. Notable titles in the Spotlight Narrative section include “Memes & Nightmares,” executive-produced by LeBron James, and the romance “Winter Spring Summer or Fall,” starring Jenna Ortega. The Spotlight Documentary section features “The Black Table” and “Missing From Fire Trail Road.”
International and US Narratives
The International Narrative section includes “Samia,” inspired by the life of an Olympic athlete, while the US Narrative section features “The Knife,” written by and starring Nnamdi Asomugha, and the comedy “The Other, Gold.”
Additional Offerings
The festival also includes The NOW Showcase, Tribeca Audio, Tribeca Games Gallery, and Tribeca X, which focuses on the intersection of advertising with speakers like Terry Crews and Byron Allen.
Tribeca Talks and Retrospectives
Tribeca Talks will feature discussions with industry giants such as Kerry Washington and Jon Batiste. The Retrospectives and Reunions section includes celebrations of the 50th anniversary of “Mean Streets” and the 40th anniversary of “Beat Streets,” along with a newly restored 70mm version of Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest.”
