If you reside in the tri-state area you are well aware of the impact of Hot 97’s mega-concert, “Summer Jam.” The iconic event takes place each year on the first Sunday of June and usually indicates the beginning of summer, but this year was quite different. Due to the rain delay, the festival stage (pre-show) was completely cancelled. And the main event, which was originally scheduled to begin at 6:30, was delayed two hours. Once ticket holders heard about the delay, they surmised the night wasn’t going to end well. And to nobody’s surprise, it didn’t. During DJ Khaled’s set, Summer Jam was cancelled and many were left unsatisfied.
Although Summer Jam was supposed to be taking place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, model, party promoter and social media personality, “YesJulz” had S.O.B’s(Night Club) in New York City lit. Traveling on her “1AMVIBES” tour, she blessed the stage with an unmatched energy and successfully prepared the crowd for an experience nobody would forget.
After a few hours of turning up and giving out free shots, YesJulz hinted at some of her potential “friends” joining her on stage. The crowd was hoping her friends might’ve included Kanye West or Future since they were in the area but no one could confirm the idea.
At 3 a.m. all questions were answered and many of her well-known “friends” decided to show up.
First, 2 Chainz came onto the stage and the crowd instantly went crazy. Before performing his hit single “Watch Out,” he let members on the stage know how seriously he took care of his sneakers with the warning “do not step on my new Yeezy’s.” Some people believed he was joking, but I’m almost certain that he was not. After 2 Chainz performed, YesJulz introduced the president of G.O.O.D Music, Pusha T, and its latest signee Desiigner. As soon as the crowd heard the intro to Desiigner’s hit single “Panda,” it exploded and created the perfect transition for the party’s most anticipated artist, Travis Scott. No introduction needed, he rushed onto the stage wearing a pink 1994 Coachella hoodie, hat brim so low that it covered his eyes and jewelry that was blinding. He performed his latest song “Pick Up the Phone” which was released within this past week but everyone in the crowd sang along as if it had been out for months.
Everyone inside of S.O.B’s was within a 50 foot radius of all the performers, no rain, no drama and only having to pay a $30 admission fee. It was safe to say that YesJulz kicked off the summer in NYC THE RIGHT WAY !100% sure that everyone had a G.O.O.D time.
