Last Wednesday, TMZ and several news media outlets reported that Glee actress and singer Naya Rivera was declared as a “missing person” after her four-year-old son, Josey, was found alone in their rented boat at Lake Piru in Ventura County, California.
Millions of fans and fellow celebrities began to express their concerns, hoping that Rivera is found and make a safe return to her four-year-old son.
Rivera, who was acting since the age of 4, when she first appeared as Hilary Winston in the 1990s sitcom The Royal Family alongside late comedian Redd Foxx & late actress Della Reese, has always been a Hollywood favorite because of her genuine personality and humility.
Since then, Rivera would make her guest appearance on shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Family Matters, The Sinbad Show, Baywatch, and Smart Guy, alongside fellow child actor Tahj Mowery, whom she would later be romantically involved with shortly after the show came off the air in 2000.
In her late teenage years in the early 2000s, Rivera would also appear in music videos. Her most famous cameo in a music video would be the R&B group, B2K’s 2002 hit, “Why I Love You.”
After guest-starring in several TV shows throughout the early 2000s, Rivera caught her big break in 2009 as she was cast for a role on the American musical comedy-drama television series Glee, where she would play Santana Lopez, the mean cheerleader yet talented singer, who struggles with her sexuality, in which fans began to draw special attention to her as she became one of most pivotal and relatable characters on the show.
With the massive success from her role in the show Glee, Naya also dedicated her time to charities for cancer and LGBTQ youth. In her later years, she began dating rapper Big Sean in 2013 and then after, she would then marry actor Ryan Dorsey in 2014, but later divorced in 2018.
Fast-forwarding to her most recent disappearance, her parents, ex-husband, brother and Glee co-star Heather Morris joined the Ventura County Sheriff’s search term in a quest to find her at the lake.
Unfortunately, it was reported on July 13th, a body was found floating in Lake Piru around 9:30 a.m. and confirmed it was in fact, Rivera, whose body that had been found, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s office at a press conference.
There are speculations on the cause of her death, however, it was found that she in fact saved her son Josey from drowning, unfortunately being that it would be ruled as the cause of her death.
She was only 33 years old.
