Disney has hired an all new cast to reboot a live action version of The Lion King in 2019 and with the fleet of contemporary celebrities taking on the childhood classic, there is bound to be a healthy amount of adults in the movie screening. In fact, names like Beyoncé as Nala and Donald Glover as Simba, are sure to attract a lot of Hip-hop fans at least.
It’s almost as if Disney is trying to attract an older crowd on the new debut, especially since they’re even playing to a bit of nostalgia by bringing back the old Mufasa, James Earl Jones, but the big names don’t even stop there, if you thought Timon and Pumbaa were funny before, just wait for comedians Seth Rogan (Pumbaa) and Billy Eichner (Timon) to give it a crack.
Speaking of comedians, this film seems to be filled with popular stars. John Oliver is going to be playing the sassy bird, Zazu, which could be due to their striking resemblance. Key & Peele’s Keegan Michael Key will be playing Kamari, and eccentric comedian Eric Andre will be playing the Azizi, which seems like a fitting pair to play the hyenas.
Given the amount of talent from Disney’s latest choice for the Lion King cast, this new version is sure to invoke as many emotion as the original. Top tear actors/actress, iconic musicians, and hilarious comedians are a good recipe for success. This movie has a ton of folks waiting and hopefully it keeps the same energy until it’s debut in 2019.
