Demi Lovato has been involved in many charities that focus on sheltering abused animals, supporting the LGBT community and humanitarian causes.
Last September the artist was named a Global Citizen ambassador during the organization’s Annual music Festival. The singer has concerned herself with displacement of thousands of shellshocked Iraqi children within the conflict and was motivated to take action. Lovato has been a strong supporter of mental health issues after her own situation of being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, eating disorders and substance abuse.
Global Citizen is an organization that encourages social change on various issues by educating its members. Their mission is to end extreme poverty through the collective actions of global citizens across the world.
Lovato advocates for the displaced children’s mental stability by funding the expansion of a Save the Children Foundation pilot program, “Healing and Education through the Arts,” (HEART). The program is directed towards areas highly affected by the conflict in Iraq. The foundation is dedicated in helping children in crisis and protect them from harm in the United States and the world.
More than three million people have been displaced within the country due to war and conflict since 2014. The HEART program will allow violence-scarred children to better process their trauma by expressing their emotions though music, drawing, painting and other forms of art.
