“I LOVE IT WHEN YOU CALL ME BIG POPPA. “
This is one of the most famous lines by slain hip hop legend The Notorious B.I.G from the song “Big Poppa” back in 1994.
Respectfully, this is one of the very few hits that B.I.G had made in his short life that will forever be remembered and missed.
Not only will his work be forever missed, but as of recently, the Notorious B.I.G are among the headlining names for nominations for the 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, alongside the great Chaka Khan and the late Whitney Houston.
Other names to be acknowledged in these nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are groups such as the Doobie Brothers, Motörhead and Thin Lizzy.
As most people know, to even be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a big step for any artist. To elaborate, it is one of the biggest honor in music history because of your artistry and unique contribution to music as an early influencer and also as a cultural icon.
One of the reasons why I am excited about the nominations for the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is because of the Notorious B.I.G being the first rapper to be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2017, where friend-turned-rival, rapper Tupac Shakur was honored into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
As much as The Notorious B.I.G had made a significant impact on hip-hop and in the city of New York, we must acknowledge the phenomenal legacies of the late-great Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan. Icons of their time with timeless hits that will always be adored, these women will finally have their names inducted respectively in one of music’s biggest ceremonies.
What are your thoughts? Are you excited for names like the Notorious B.I.G, Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
