Former rapper Logic just spent $226,000 on an incredibly rare Pokémon card—a first-edition Charizard from 1999.
Not only is Logic’s card a first-edition Charizard, but it’s also Shadowless, whereas the typical card, including the first-edition Charizard, is usually not. A Shadowless card has no shadow on the right side of the art.

Cardhops posted on Twitter that “A PSA 10 Base Set 1st Edition Charizard just sold at auction with an ending bid of $183, 812.00 via @IconicAuctions.”
All together, Logic had to pay $226,000 for his rare Pokémon card, which included the 20% buyers premium. This broke the record for the highest price Nintendo collectible sold.
Cardhops notes that this steep price is the highest this card has ever sold for. Would this card’s price climb even higher if Logic decided to sell it? We think that maybe it would; after all, Logic owned it.
Logic is not the only celebrity who’s recently purchased Nintendo memorabilia—Logan Paul just bought a base set booster box for $200,000 and ended up finding a rare first-edition Charizard inside worth approximately $40,000. However, it seemed as if Paul was initially after the card Logic snagged after Logic tagged Paul in a Tweet stating that he’s the one at the auction for 183k.

Regardless of whether Paul was initially after Logic’s card or not, many think that 183k is an absurd cost for a Pokémon card. In an Instagram post on Saturday, Logic mapped out his reasoning for buying the Pokémon card by explaining his love for Pokémon and Pokémon cards ever since he was a child. To him, it’s worth it—he’s always wanted one and now he can actually afford to enjoy it.
