Cash Money Records will host their annual turkey giveaway on Nov. 26 in New Orleans, LA. This is their 23rd year that Ronald “Slim” Williams and Bryan “Birdman” Williams hold the event for those in need in their hometown.
According to The Source, the event includes help from the community with turkeys provided by Walmart, sides from Rouses and entertainment by NOLA Games on Wheels for family activities. It also will provide health care access to families such as dental care, eye exams, stroke assessments and several more.
The event was created through the family’s charity organization The Johnny and Gladys Williams Foundation, which is in honor or their parents. Birdman told The Source it was also created to help the community because the people of New Orleans are important to them. He also mentioned that the success and money don’t define them, it’s the relationships built in that community.
“Our greatest success was being able to go home once a year, be on those same streets we grew up on, and prop up our brothers and sisters in the neighborhood,” Birdman said. “That’s what this label was always about. There’s nothing more important as far as I’m concerned—and never will be anything more important. It comes before anything.”
Slim also had a heartfelt explanation as to why Cash Money Records believe the tradition is needed.
“I really believe it’s the most important thing we do,” Slim said. “New Orleans made us. It’s a part of who we are. So, there’s no better feeling than giving back to our home. Every year, we try to do more, but it’ll never be enough to thank the city for everything it’s given to us and our families.”
