Tyler Perry is no stranger to breaking barriers, from acting to creating films for Black culture and developing the Perry Studios. This time around, Perry has topped it off by officially becoming a billionaire.
On Sept. 1, Forbes released an article based on Perry’s billionaire success, which featured his net worth estimated at $1 billion and claimed that Perry is on his way to holding a “membership in The Forbes 400.”
According to Forbes, Perry holds ownership of everything he’s released, such as, “1,200 episodes of television, 22 feature films and at least two dozen stage plays, as well as a 330-acre studio lot at the edge of Atlanta’s southern limits,” the article read. “He used that control to leverage a deal with ViacomCBS that pays him $150 million a year for new content and gives him an equity stake in BET+, the streaming service it debuted last September.”
The first hit that hit film that Perry made in Hollywood was in 2005 with his infamous the Diary of A Mad Black Woman, which brought out 11 Madea movies and made $290 million in profits before retiring it in 2019, according to Forbes.
Recently, Perry has become part-owner of BET+ and has recently released the exclusive Madea’s Farewell Tour on the app. In a video shared on Instagram, Perry expressed that it’s his biggest play yet and also his final play. In a trailer for Madea’s Farewell Tour, it showcased Perry motivating others to go for their dreams and not give up.
Not giving up is exactly what the billionaire has done this whole time. Perry has never shied away from his past and how he’s gotten him to where he is today. The writer, producer has expressed his story of being homeless, making it in Hollywood, and challenging the industry.
The Madea’s Farewell Tour is currently out now on BET+.
