Just after five years of selling Sean John, a lawsuit has been filed by Diddy against the brand and the company’s new owner, Global Brand Groups USA, for $25 million.
Diddy is aiming to protect his image and persona with a lawsuit against Sean John. Allegedly, the brand decided to use Diddy’s name as a promotion for a women’s clothing brand and failed to consult with the rapper.
“Mr. Combs has never endorsed the GBG Collection, which is branded ‘sean john x missguided’ and ‘Sean John x Missguided.’ Mr. Combs has neither granted Defendants the right to use his name, image, likeness, or persona in conjunction with the GBG Collection, nor has he agreed to make a public statement or appearance in support of the GBG Collection.”

The lawsuit focuses on a Sean John collaboration with a women’s clothing brand, ‘Sean John x Missguided,’ which was given the impression that Diddy was involved with the collaboration. The New York native is suing for false quotes that he did not say and were released for the press. According to AllHipHop, the rapper was also featured in an ad that promoted the new collaboration.
Johnathon Davis, Diddy’s lawyer explained, “Sean John, GBG and Missguided are using the unapproved material, which contains false or misleading representations of fact, to promote and sell the items in the GBG Collection because they understand that associating it with Mr. Combs will significantly increase sales and profits.”
This is not the first time that Diddy seeks to sue Sean John. Last week, Diddy expressed that the brand stole the phrase “Vote Or Die” and sold merchandise for the 2020 elections.
