Two Distant Strangers is a 32-minute twisted tale through a thought-provoking racism “Ground Hog Day” showing the horrors of police brutality.
It follows the young black man, Carter James, played by rapper and actor Joey Bada$$ who is eager to get home back to his dog, that he encounters a time loop of infinite endings. He dies at the hands of a particular police officer for simply being black and wakes up right back where he started. Finally, after what he believes to be his 99th time going through this endless cycle, he tries to reason and find common ground with the police officer by suggesting the police officer drive him home.
Another Netflix original movie where “Black Death” is being constantly sold back to the Black Community. While, as a community continues to grieve “Black Death” every day at an alarming rate and yes still see little to no justice happen for the community. Film platforms like Netflix and even Amazon Prime seem to continue to profit from the trauma that Black Americans every day. Never seen as happy or dealing with normal problems, but always seen struggling and battling with racism being the ultimate villain in the story.
Constantly being reminded by Hollywood of the horror of what living in America as a Black man or woman is really like when there does not need to be a constant reminder. The movie does a great job of showing the horrors of police brutality and being racially profiled in 32-minutes is, but we are bombarded about this from the news as it is. Why does there need to be constant movies released about it when we already know that the issue is a continuous problem? What there needs to be is more movies like Concrete Cowboy, also currently streaming on Netflix, showing the life of being Black Cowboys. Typically, when most people think of cowboys they do not think of Black men and women riding on the backs of horses. This movie shows how underrepresented Black men and women are in areas like there being Black Cowboys or even Pirates. The media and Hollywood prevented society from thinking there ever was Black Cowboys or Pirates because it is never shown on TV
