The 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards hosted by comedian Lil Duval aired on Tuesday, Oct. 8, which featured several great performances and well-deserved winners.
Rapsody graced the stage performing “Nina” and “Serena” off her new album Eve. Her powerful message did not go unnoticed as she had a fire burning across the stage and displayed photos of important women in history such as Serena Williams, Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg.
Chance the Rapper’s performance was a heartwarming moment that was simple, but intimate. Chance performed his song “Sun Come Down,” from his album The Big Day, which touched on his wishes for his life, marriage, and afterlife. He rapped, “Please don’t make no holograms, don’t wanna do it twice/ You wanna use my likeness, please approve it through my wife.”
Lil Kim also performed a medley of her hit music that included Musiq Soulchild, O.T. Genasis and Lil Cease from Junior Mafia. Her performance included “Quiet Storm,” “The Jump Off,” and “All About the Benjamins.”
There were also performances from Anderson.PAAK, Da Baby, Kamillion, Lil Baby, Lil Jon, Megan Thee Stallion, Offset, Rick Ross, Saweetie, T-Pain, Tom G, and YBN Cordae.
As for the winners of the year, it’s not a surprise that J. Cole took home many awards since he creates timeless music. Cole received lyricist of the year, best-featured verse on 21 Savage’s “A Lot,” and impact track for “Middle Child.”
Megan Thee Stallion had her shine at the BET Awards by receiving hot ticket performer and best mixtape for “Fever.” Travis Scott took home album of the year for Astroworld and video director of the year. Nipsey Hussle the great received MVP of the year, while Billy Ray Cyrus dedicated his win with Lil Nas X on best collab duo or group to Hussle. Cyrus and Lil Nas X also won single of the year for “Old Town Road.”
