The 8th annual Armed Forces Natural Hair and Health Expo is going to take place on Sunday October 27 at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center in Killeen, Texas. The expo is going to exhibit workshops, entertainment, styling demonstrations, and a natural hair/fashion show for both kids and adults. As a bonus, there will also be a natural hair contest and there are free gift bags for the first 100 attendees to arrive at the event.
There will be over 30 booths and exhibits covering natural hair and heath, and also a workshop for attendees that includes information on women who are in the military and wearing their natural hair in accordance with military regulations, natural haircare, and hair braiding. The owner and founder of the expo, Luvina Sabree, is an Army veteran herself. “I hope that people are educated and empowered by learning more about their natural hair and health,” said Sabree.
The special guest of the expo this year is going to be the Guinness World Record Holder of the World’s Largest Afro (Female), Aevin Dugas. She has held this record since 2011 and it took her over 12 years to reach the full peak of her hair journey. Dugas will attend the event to display her larger than life afro and to take pictures with attendees. She is sure to be a source of inspiration for all of those who are embarking on their natural hair journey. They can only hope to live up to half of the attention that Dugas’ infamous afro has gotten from around the world.
If you wish to attend the expo, tickets are going for only $15 for general admission if they are purchased in advance, and $20 if purchased at the door. Be sure to get a hold of them soon because they are selling fast!
