When Antonio Brown signed with the Patriots, it seemed as if all his antics had finally paid off. He was part of one of the best teams in NFL history. However, this victory was extremely short lived considering that he was released from the team on September 20th. There is much speculation around the exact reason that he was released from the team. Soon after he signed, a former athletic trainer accused Brown of sexual assault. Just a week after this, the Patriot’s decided to terminate their relationship with Brown.
“The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown,” the team said in a statement. “We appreciate the hard work of many people over the past 11 days, but we feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time.”
Following being released Brown tweeted out “The marathon continues”, which is a popular phrase that was coined by the late rapper, Nipsey Hussle. Just a few days later on September 22 Brown tweeted: “Will not be playing in the NFL anymore these owners can cancel deals do whatever they want at any time we will see if the NFLPA hold them accountable sad they can just void guarantees anytime going on 40m 2 months will see if they pay up !”.
Clearly this was an emotionally driven tweet and he’s now seemed to change his mind about the entire ordeal. On September 27th, he wrote out that he was the best so there was no point in stopping now. With the plethora of events that Brown has caused and encountered it’s hard to keep up. He is now a free agent and there is no guarantee that he is going to be picked up by another team considering the controversy that has surrounded him for the better part of the year.
Hopefully, his current downtime will help him get a better grasp on the future of his career.
