Going to the beach during summer in Los Angeles is a must-do activity. The sunny weather calls for spending days relaxing in the sun and going for a swim, but since more people are on vacation you will not find a beach that isn’t crowded or full of tourists. Visiting popular beaches will only be fun if you plan ahead of time, but even then, LA traffic is unpredictable and if you visit on a weekend, you will spend the day looking for parking, moving through crowds, and waiting in line. This is why I have made a list of hidden LA beaches that only locals know about, which gives one a chance to have beautiful views and a peaceful time at the beach.
Lechuza Beach
Located in Malibu, this beach is secluded some would think it was private. There are no services available, but it is much less crowded than bigger beaches. Some activities you can partake in are sunbathing, tide pooling, and walking. It isn’t ideal to surf or swim since the shoreline is very rocky, but it is perfect if you are looking to relax by the shore.
Cabrillo Beach
Located in downtown San Pedro, this beach is a beautiful place that has a small pier you can walk on. If you are a fan of tide pools this beach is perfect for you, and you can see a lot of sea life like sea anemones and sea slugs. There are also a few historical remains like an old WWII bunker.
Big Rock Beach
Located in Malibu, this beach is known as Big Rock Beach because when the tide reaches its highest level you can only see the big rock. If you are lucky, you might be able to catch seals sunning themselves. A few activities you can partake in at this beach are fishing, scuba diving, and bird watching.
Malaga Cove
Located in Palos Verdes, this beach is one of the more sandier beaches in the area. If you hike down to the beach, you can see the beautiful view and a lot of plant life you might not see at other beaches. The crowds are much lower than the ones on the neighboring beaches like Torrance and Redondo. Some activities you can partake in are hiking, surfing, swimming, scuba diving, sunbathing, and fishing.
Sacred Cove Beach
Located in Palos Verdes, this beach is more of a natural beauty. It is a rocky hike down, but the tide pools are full of sea life like starfish, sea anemones, and abalone shells. You also have a lovely view of Catalina Island at a distance. Some activities you can partake in include mountain biking, cave exploring, whale watching, and fishing.
