Week 6 of BIG 3 Basketball took place in front of a jam packed crowd of more than 15,000 Fans in the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. This week was filled with numerous storylines both on and off the court. The big off the court storyline was the surprising absence of 3’s Company’s player/coach, Allen Iverson, who pulled a Derrick Rose and went AWOL. The timing of Iverson’s absence couldn’t be any worse as his team went into the week facing elimination from playoff contention. 3’s Company wasn’t the only team facing elimination as Stephen Jackson and the Killer 3s also went into this week needing a victory.
Game 1: Killer 3s vs Ball Hogs
This was a do or die game for the Killer 3s and they were able to come up big in the clutch. Chauncey Billups returned to action this week and his presence opened up the offense and allowed Killer 3s Co-Captain, Stephen Jackson to pour in a game high 23 points in the Killer 3s 50-40 victory.
Game 2: 3 Headed Monsters vs Tri-State
Either two things was going to happen in this matchup. The 3 Headed Monsters would be the second team to clinch a playoff berth or the Tri-State would be the first team eliminated from playoff contention. Knowing the magnitude of this matchup, it’s not surprising why this was one of the most entertaining matchups of the week. Potential BIG 3 MVP, Rashard Lewis, delivered on another masterful performance as he scored a week 6-high 25 points (tied with 3’s Company’s Andre Owens) in his team’s 50-45 playoff clinching victory over the Tri-State.
Game 3: Trilogy vs Ghost Ballers
Coming into week 6, Trilogy was the most surprising dominant team in the BIG 3. Coming out of Week 6, Trilogy is STILL the most dominant team in the BIG 3. They were able to overwhelm the Ghost Ballers with their depth in their 51-36 victory over the Ghost Ballers.
Game 4: 3’s Company vs Power
Everything was stacked against 3’s Company coming into this week. First they came into week tied with Tri-State for the worst record in the league, they were playing the second best team in the league, and if that’s not enough pressure, their player/coach, Allen Iverson, was away from the building without informing the league of his absence. So, how would they respond ? Dermarr Johnson stepped into the role of player/coach, but it was Andre Owens who led the way for his team. Owens led all in scoring with 25 points and also picked up 11 rebounds in the game. Owens also put a nice bow on the Hollywood story by scoring the game winning three pointer in 3’s Company’s 53-49 victory as they kept their playoff hopes alive at least for this week.
