If You Like: The 1975, LANY, lovelytheband
The realm of alternative/indie continues to be one of the most popular genres in music right now. Rooted in subtle romantic lyricism and lo-fi late-night drives, it allows the angst of human emotion to shine through. Usually seen as a genre of teenagers who have yet to feel the real weight of the world, packed are a few gems that transverse the age gap. From the minds of Philadelphia natives, Joey Beretta and Jonathan Capeci come a band that encourages you to take that drive down the Mullholland drive in the twilight moon.
A little rougher around the edges, the trio of Beretta, Capeci, and Nicholas Sainato make for a perfect blend of synth-pop and indie. After the disbanding of their earlier project, Dinner and a Suit, the band relaunched under the name Nightly. True to their name, the band’s music could be best described as the tunes that make you think while playing during the climax of that one arthouse film you love. It’s cute but takes on a more mature form as you continue to sink into their discography. Nightly crashed onto the scene with their 2016 hit single, “XO” racking up millions of streams in just a few days. The track was released on their debut EP, Honest.
The success carried Nightly for the next two years as the band began gaining nationwide attention. The band became opening acts for some of the biggest acts like All-American Rejects and Ke$ha during the 2017 year. While on tour in 2018, Nightly released more music including the rock electric romantic track “Miss You Like Hell” and “Who Am I to You.” Both tracks appeared on their second EP The Sound of Your Voice. Nightly followed up next year with their highly-rated track “Twenty-Something.”
The track, for those familiar with that sound, is one of their best to date. It shows the range of which the band can pull. Flooded with raw emotion and an undying sense of heartbreak, it’s the perfect starter track for potential incoming fans. Caring production and sharp lyrics cut through the grim underlying theme of it all. It’s a polished well-placed track that stands the test of their rising new fanbase.
In 2020, Nightly released their first full-length studio album, night, love you. The project allowed the band to continue their success and break into the airwaves. Recently, Nightly has exploded on social media, particularly TikTok. The band continues to amass following on the platform while posting clips of their material. Nightly spent 2021 releasing more music for their fans in the form of singles and a stripped-down EP, night, love you (alt ep).
