As one of the most refreshing R&B singers coming out of the new age, Dijon is something of a trailblazer. Despite falling within the realms of R&B, Dijon wears a hat that transcends labels. His raspy like voice is raw and fulfilled with emotions that are hard to ignore. The truth-telling is something Dijon taps into well and hopes to bring a little more to the forefront. Despite living in LA, the Maryland-born singer is far from the cliche that is ever-evolving from the land of angels.
Music was never actually in the cards for Dijon but fate had other plans. Following down the path, Dijon learned to lean into his artistic voice. His style is gaining speed among the music industry as many latches on to his unique style of flow drifting. Since 2017, with his debut single “Stranger,” Dijon has continued to push the boundaries of music. Later that year, Dijon released his debut EP, Sci-fi 1. The project gained a significant amount of attention, placing him on a number of music outlets. The momentum would build into his second project, How Do You Feel About Getting Married?
His second EP focused more on love and the meaning of relationships while diving into unexplored forms of soul. Songs like “do you light up?” and “alley-oop” are standouts tracks from his 2020 project. Carrying over to this year, Dijon has not slowed down. Always seeking more understanding, Dijon seeks out answers on the up-tempo “Many Times” and low-fi infusing “Rodeo Clown.” Both singles are continuous strong points in Dijon’s arsenal. Proving once again, R&B is his to command.
Dijon released his debut album, Absolutely, this past week. Following in his previous work, the singer expands upon that infectious flow leading up to his official outing. His latest project plays out like an open letter to society as a way for opening dialogue. As Dijon would have it, a little more understanding could go a long way. Interjected amongst the album is background chatter that makes for a more intact and honest production. It’s only among the ones you love do we create art.
