Since the passing of legendary NBA Player and Oscar-Winner, Kobe Bryant, many have taken to social media to share their memorable stories. As for the Hip Hop and Latin community, what better way to pay their respects for the Mamba than a tribute song?
On Jan. 28, Justin Credible, the LA Leakers’ host, released a snippet of a song that featured Big Sean, The Game, and Hit-Boy rapping on it, as they paid their respects to the late basketball player.
The short clip showed their love for him rapping about how great he was on and off the court. The Game reminisces when Kobe hurt his Achilles Heel during a game, as he limped to the free-throw line to continue playing ball. He also touches base on how he witnessed Kobe score his 60th point, in which he then flips it bringing in Nipsey Hussle saying they’re in heaven together.
“Black Mamba, neighborhood Nipsey/That’s the type of love you throw and it come back like a Frisbee,” The Game raps.
On the snippet, Big Sean shared how he’s going to go hard for what he wants, as he carries on that Mamba Mentality to be great since Kobe worked hard to get where he got in his lifetime.
“Fuck 24/7, I’m going 24/8/That’s magic and he knew what it took to be great,” Sean raps.
The tragedy affected people from different backgrounds and around the world, which is why fans from the Latin community were touched by Bad Bunny’s tribute “6 Rings.”
The song is short of a 2-minute track but sweet. The Puerto Rican singer sings about how amazed he was while attending his first Laker game. He even shined a light on Kobe for teaching him about living a passionate life and being stronger after failing. “6 Rings” also reflects on Kobe being a family man saying he won another ring from that.
“And congrats, you also won six rings/Five in the NBA and a one from a marriage that gave you four daughters,” Bad Bunny sings in Spanish. “Thinking one of them left with you, I lose control/But nah, it’s so you don’t play alone in Heaven.”
Although this tragedy will be so heavy on our hearts for a while, artists like Big Sean, The Game, Hit-Boy, and Bad Bunny help us express our emotions, and reflect on the great moments of the late Kobe Bryant.
