Earlier this year, GOOD music recording artist, Teyana Taylor released her third album The Album filled with many features from Missy Elliot, Future, Erykah Badu, and even her husband Iman Shumpert. Her third album also included her hit single “Bare with Me“, which gained a lot of praise due to the unique choreography in the music video. Now, the singer took to Instagram to announce that she’s retiring from the music industry.
Last month, Taylor took it to social media to express her concerns about the most recent 2021 Grammy nominations. Her issues stem from the lack of representation in the Best R&B album category nominations. While many female artist’s R&B albums were pushed into the category of Best Progressive R&B Album. Taylor voiced her concerns about the nominations, which she had a lot of people backing up her concerns.
Y’all was better off just saying best MALE R&B ALBUM cause all I see is dick in this category. https://t.co/LlL769FbTR

Followed by her concerns about the Grammy nominations, Taylor soon posted a huge announcement of her retiring from the music industry. She did express her gratitude towards her fans for supporting and streaming her music in her retirement announcement.
“I ain’t gone front in times of feeling super under-appreciated as an artist, receiving little to no real push from the ‘machine,’ constantly getting the shorter end of the stick, being overlooked, I mean the list on and on lol…So I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that I can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world,” She stated in her Instagram post.
Taylor hopped on Instagram Live to further explain what she meant in her Instagram post. Which she admitted that her frustration of feeling under-appreciated comes from her label. She also explained that she made her decision to protect her mental health and to stay healthy for her two children.
There have been many examples of artists reneging from their retirement from the music business. However, it seems like Taylor’s decision on retirement is final until further notice. However, her supportive fanbase that hoped the retirement wasn’t true, can’t help but support her decision, which is to currently focus on her mental health and children.
