It seems like Lil Wayne isn’t the only rap star showing love for former president Donald Trump. Sexyy Red has voiced her support of the former president in an interview with the podcast “This Past Weekend”, according to Yahoo Entertainment. She was asked “if more people are going to support Trump now in the hood” to which she replied, “I like Trump. Yeah, they support him in the hood,” also according to Yahoo Entertainment.
According to Buzzfeed, she also told the podcast, “At first, I don’t think people was fucking with him like they thought he was racist, saying little shit, and you know against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people their free money. Oh baby, we love Trump, we need him back in office.” She continued, “We need him back. Baby them checks, them stimulus checks? Trump, we miss you,” “I like Trump, I love Trump. He funny to me. I used to watch him talking to people, he used to be calling people fat,” she added with a laugh. “He funny. We need people like him.”
Red has a point, she seems to love Mr. Trump for his financial support, personality, and getting people out of jail which are all tremendous reasons to love a president, and she also has a right to her opinion along with the freedom to choose whichever presidential candidate she would like to support. People as usual expressed their dismay with her because of these comments. According to HipHopDX, Red “received backlash on social media” for her support of Mr. Trump in spite of the air of “racism, misogyny, and election interference” that existed in his presidency. On “X” (formerly known as Twitter) Apple Music’s Ebro Darden and Hot 97 wrote, “Clearly some people don’t know how the stimulus checks worked, who’s money it actually was/is and how it go distributed… People believe anything.” Another X user wrote, “Disappointed to see this, she can’t be my fave new rapper no more. But she is right, them stimulus checks was kinda all it took for a lot of ppl to hop on the Trump train smh,” all according to HipHopDX.
According to Newsweek, Sexyy Red is now being accused of trying to deflect from her Trump comments with her leaked sex tape; many social media users are accusing her of releasing her sex tape “briefly on Instagram” in an effort to cover up what she said. One X user wrote, “And just like that…the trump scandal is forgotten BRAVO SEXYY RED BRAVO”, another wrote, “So within 36 hours Sexyy Red said she loves Trump because he gave her ‘free’ money years ago and posted a vid of herself getting r******** and this y’all queen lol.” One X user however voiced her support and concern for the rapper by saying, “People spreading that video of Sexyy Red and also making MEMES out of it are so f****** weird. What is wrong with you people genuinely? Imagine a private video of you is leaked and somebody screenshots your face and makes a joke. Weirdos.”
Whether Sexyy Red orchestrated a publicity stunt or not is unclear; it is crystal clear, however, that she is entitled to have an opinion, and support whomever she pleases.
