If it wasn’t a ‘Hot Girl’ summer already, Meg thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj are heating it up even more. The two prominent rap artists teamed up to debut a single rightly named ‘Hot Girl Summer’.
If you don’t know what a Hot Girl Summer is then you’re late to the party. A few weeks ago, Meg thee Stallion took to twitter to officially define what the self-coined term means: “Being a Hot Girl is about being unapologetically YOU, having fun, being confident, living YOUR truth, being the life of the party, etc.”
Having declared what this anthem stood for, Meg wanted to end the summer with a bang and released the song she’d been teasing since July 18th. The song features the one and only Nicki Minaj as well as the R&B hook genius, Ty Dolla $ign.
Before the song even starts it’s setting a high expectation considering that it was produced by Crazy Mike and Juicy J. The beginning features a much-welcomed sample of the ever so popular song “Act Up” by the City Girls. Soon after this, Ty delivers beautifully vocalized chorus and the ladies came through with the bars. His synchronized singing is a great transition into the hot bars dropped by the ‘Big Ole Freak’ singer and Nicki Minaj.
Meg delivered lines such as “told him ain’t no taming me, I love my n—a equally,” as well as shouted out her college career with the line “Look, college girl, but a freak on the weekend.” Meanwhile, Nicki kept her usual Barbie flow and ad-libs while still turning up the heat. As the song progresses Meg and Nicki continue to bounce off of each other and their musical chemistry is evident.
It may come as a surprise to some that Nicki was so eager and ready to work with Megan considering the dragged out drama that she (Nicki) has had with other upcoming female rap artists such as Cardi B. Their beef sparked the infamous quote “Nicki stopped my bag.” This led into a long ‘tit for tat’ on social media and in-person feud that included insults and physical altercations as well. The squabble caused some of Nicki fans to flee from her side because she wasn’t being supportive of her fellow female artist.
However, it appears that Nicki has redeemed herself from the image of being a bitter and unwelcoming artist. Herself and Meg have sparked what seems to be a great friendship.
As for what we can expect from them in the future, there is not a clue. We can only hope that the two continue to work together and bring us more than just a Hot Girl Summer.
