Just when we thought Drake had done it all for the Hip Hop culture, he proved us wrong. On Feb. 11, Ultimate Rap League and Caffeine announced that Drake signed a multi-year deal to bring the two together to stream rap battles.
URL, which already has a fan base who watch their rap battles, has teamed up with Caffeine to stream rap battles with three to four rounds of different rappers going head to head.
Drake was excited to share the big news with everyone on Instagram. “Excited to announce this major step forward,” Drake wrote. “I managed to get URL and Caffeine linked up with the objective of making battle rap easier to access in your home or on your mobile device…”
According to the Instagram post by URL, the battles will only be available for those who watch during air time, since it will only be shown once. Viewers will have to become premium users to the URLTV APP to watch the aired battle multiple times.
Caffeine posted on Instagram a preview video of what is expected to be shown on the platform. It included lyrical, female and male rappers, taking the stage in an old school Hip Hop form and going at it.
In another video posted by Caffeine, it expressed the background and history of how URL was founded.
The first show was aired on Feb. 12, which included Smack White and Eric Beasley, the founders of URL. The next show is set to premiere on Feb. 19. URL also mentioned that on March 14 and 15, there will be a two-day event that will feature some of the favorite URL guests. To check showtimes and features, head to the official streaming platform.
