Drake has not failed to give his fans music they love, from dropping his older songs on Care Package to past mixtapes like So Far Gone all in 2019. Now he’s taking it to another level by releasing his new mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes.
On May 1, Drake dropped the 14-track mixtape, which features Giveon, Chris Brown, Future, Playboi Carti, Young Thug, Fivio Foreign, and Sosa Geek. The Canada native released the singles “Toosie Slide” and “War” before dropping the album.
Some of his music such as “Desires” had already been released on Soundcloud, so the OVO rapper decided to add it to the tracklist. He took to Instagram to announce Dark Lane Demo Tapes and mentioned that there would be “new vibes” heard on the project.
The caption read, “My brothers @oliverelkhatib @ovonoel put together a lot of the songs people have been asking for (some leaks and some joints from SoundCloud and some new vibes) DARK LANE DEMO TAPES out everywhere at midnight.”
The album gives off a mellow vibe, as most of the songs are slow tempo compared to the upbeat songs that he’s been recently dropping. However, there are some fast-paste songs, such as “D4L” featuring Future and Young Thug, which they each represent their labels while shouting each other out throughout the song.
“Toosie Slide” has been a hit since it’s been released, it’s been featured on several TikToks and became a challenge with the official dance. We do get to hear his rapid flows mixed with singing, like on “Desires” featuring Future that has been fans favorite since before the project release.
In the mixtape release post on IG, Drake also mentioned in his post that he would be dropping a studio album in Summer 2020 making it his sixth studio album. Fans can expect to receive more music to start off the Summer.
