From Love and Hip Hop to behind the mic, it is not far fetched to say that Cardi B has found her calling. The 24-year-old rap artist has taken the game by storm with her club anthem ‘Bodak Yellow’. Sitting at number three on the billboard top 100, arguably the song of summer seventeen has not solidified her position or longevity in the game for some rap fans. Through thousands of streams, club spins, and radio plays you still hear murmurs about a one hit wonder. But after her performance at the MIA festival, the Atlantic Records artist announced her debut album. “…let me remind ya’ll I’m dropping my album in October bye!” said Cardi in her very distinct voice. This freshman album could be the turning point early in her career. Of course, the goal is to take her out of the category of a one hit wonder and to solidify her in the game as an artist that is here to stay. Also to put her in the conversation of the best female artist in rap. Okay, I know there may not be many competitors besides Nicki Minaj and some may even throw in Azealia Banks, but none the less being in that conversation so early is a good look for her career. Don’t forget we haven’t gotten a Nicki Album since December of 2014 so a head to head album battle might be possible. Between now and October, rap fans and Cardi B fans can continue to bump ‘Bodak Yellow’ and acknowledge her footprint in the industry so far. I mean Beyoncé showed her love at made in America and that means something as an up and coming artist. Ask Chance I bet he remembers.
That being said with a single that has held a spot on the billboard charts for 8 weeks, support from A-list artists and of course the Bardi Gang in her corner she is going in the right direction.
