November 20th, 2016 further solidfy what should’ve been known from the jump; Hip Hop 2016 has been the year of Drake. The “6 God” received 13 American Music Award nominations which surpassed “The King of Pop”, Michael Jackson’s record of 11.
While Drake did not take home the honors of Artist of the Year and Favorite Male Artist Pop/Rock (Those went to Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber respectively), Drake swept the Hip Hop category as he took home Favorite Artist Rap-/Hip Hop, Favorite Album -Rap/ Hip Hop, and Favorite Song-Rap/Hip Hop besting Future and Fetty Wap in each categories.
In Drake’s acceptance speech, he took the time to direct a slight jab at who many consider to be Kanye West.

How will this play out ? will Kanye West take Drake’s speech as a shot at him ?, and most importantly who will knock Drake off his throne ? I’m pretty sure we won’t have to wait till the beginning of 2017 for the answer to at least one of these questions.
