SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con) is the holy grail of all things comic book and superhero TV shows/movies related. It is the most highly anticipated event of the year due to the fact that it is the first chance for “sweaties”( comic lovers) to get the latest news on all upcoming comic related releases and memorabilia.
It also gives guests to chance to dress up in extravagant cosplay gear as their favorite characters and interact with their favorite television/movie stars of their favorite comic book characters such as Jason Momoa(Aqua Man), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Chloe Bennet (Quake of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool). But nothing gets you more pumped for Comic-Con than the release of the first teaser trailer of that movie that you was so pumped about when you first heard it’s announcement two years ago. So without further ado, here are the TUC 5 best trailers for from SDCC.
5. SHAZAM (Release Date: April 5, 2019)
SHAZAM should be DC Studio’s answer to Spiderman and Guardians of the Galaxy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film, which stars Zachary Levi as SHAZAM is light in tone and has comedy elements. This film should provide DC with a great contrast to a cinematic universe that is often very dark and takes itself way too seriously although the Justice League film tried to rectify that at times.
4. Glass (Release Date: January 18, 2019)
Glass is a film that picks up where we left off in film director, M. Night Shyamalan left off in the critically acclaimed 2016 smash, Split. Many were surprised to find out that Split was a film that took place in the same universe as the 2000 film, Unbreakable starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. Glass is a film that brings in all of the main characters from Unbreakable and Split as well as introduce us to “American Horror Story” star actress, Sarah Paulson, who will star as psychiatrist, Dr. Ellie Staple who serves patients in a high-level security facility that believe they have superpowers.
3. Godzilla: King of the Monsters(Release Date: May 31, 2019)
The 2014 adaptation of the Godzilla franchise reboot didn’t live up to expectations. For one, interesting main characters were killed off in a matter of minutes (Cough! Bryan Cranston) and most importantly, there was not enough GODZILLA in a movie titled, Godzilla. The 2019 sequel should hopefully rectify this issue as the trailer introduces us to popular Godzilla villains, Mothra, Rodan, and the three-headed King Ghidorah. There’s rumored to be even more monsters in this film, but what we are all anticipating is the highly anticipated Kong vs Godzilla crossover film which should be coming any year now. But by the looks of this trailer, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is going to be the appetizer we should have gotten in the first film.
2. The Walking Dead Season 9 (Release Date: October 7, 2019)
Season 9 of The Walking Dead will mark the end of an era. This 5-minute trailer shows how our heroes are coping during the fall out of “All out War”. This upcoming season seems to indicate that a civil war will take place amongst the ranks of the survivors. Also, if you are a fan of the comics, this trailer gives you a nice easter egg to a potential new threat that our favorite characters will have to deal with down the line.
1. Aquaman (Release Date: December 21, 2018)
If SHAZAM is DC’s answer to popular film franchises Spiderman and Guardians of the Galaxy, then Aquaman must be DC’s answer to Black Panther. Aquaman like Black Panther will be introducing audience members to a new world within the universe. Never before have we seen a superhero film take place underwater. Jason Momoa owned the role as Aquaman in The Justice League. Now, will he be able to command the screen in a solo effort as did fellow Justice League member, Wonderwoman (Gal Gadot) did in her standalone film remains to be seen. But if one thing is for certain in this trailer, Aquaman will be a fun time at the theaters this holiday season with its radiant color palette and underwater setting.
