Netflix’s true-crime docuseries “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” became a hit. The seven-part series follows a number of big cat owners, breeders, and conservationists in the US, but primarily focusing on the bitter feud between Joe Exotic and rival Carole Baskin.
According to Variety, an eight-episode will be produced by CBS Television and Image Television Studio, and Nicolas Cage is set to play the infamous Tiger King, Joseph Maldonado-Passage a.k.a. Joe Exotic. The series pulls from Leif Reigstad’s Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild.”
This will be Cage’s first television role in his career. There’s no word yet as to what network or streaming service the show will debut on. “Tiger King” premiered on March 20 and quickly became part of the cultural zeitgeist. According to Nielsen data, the show reached an audience of 34.3 million unique viewers in its first 10 days on the service. Although, Joe Exotic is behind bars and was sentenced for 22 years for his role in a murder-for-hire plot and killing tigers. His bags don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
