In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Showtime entertainment president Gary Levine stated, “Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago. We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world.”
Levine’s excitement to see where Phillips and Hall will lead the limited revival of Dexter leads to many fans wondering what exactly will this new season be about. The revival of this show could finally give closure to many fans as they remember the ending of the last season.
Spoiler ahead.
The finale of Season 8 saw Dexter having faked his death and living under a new name in Oregon after wrecking his boat and escaping from a hospital with the body of his sister, who had been shot and left in a coma, and having sent his son Harrison and love interest Hannah to live in Argentina. Many fans speculated that the season 8 finale could lead to a spin-off. The revival of Dexter won’t be a spin-off of the show, but it will start where season 8 left off.
Production for the revival is set to start at the beginning of next year. Which they’re hoping to be able to air the 10 episodes fall of 2021. Phillips and Hall will executive produce the Dexter limited series with John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Bill Carraro, and Scott Reynolds.
The return of Showtime’s show Dexter is quite interesting due to the impact of Covid-19 on the television industry. Many shows being canceled, production for some shows being put to a halt, and even some shows taking the risk to start filming. A specific release date hasn’t been announced for the limited series revival of Dexter, but people are excited to see just how the writers are going to change the series.
