The last two weeks have brought us nothing but box office hits at the theaters. Both Avengers: Endgame and Pokémon Detective Pikachu have both delivered on box office records. Avengers: Endgame surpassing Titanic’s near 22-year box office revenue record; while Pokémon Detective Pikachu delivers on a record opening for a video game adaptation with $58 Million opening weekend.
Now, with two movie adaptations based off of comic/manga or video game lure doing huge numbers at the Box Office, film director, Michael Dougherty will be hoping that his follow up to the critically disappointing 2014 Godzilla film will fare better at the box office. Garreth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla film was heavily criticized for not featuring enough of Godzilla in the film. Dougherty’s sequel will not only be giving audience members more Godzilla, but also, 3 boss villains in the forms of Rodan, Ghidorah, and Mothra.
If you’re like me and are easily impressed at the sight of realistic CGI monsters waging war against each other on screen, then you were going to see this film regardless of what the early reviews indicated. However, you won’t have to rely on the spectacle of seeing these monsters on screen as the only reason to entice you to spend $20 to see this movie in theaters as early reviews for the film are highly positive.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is in theaters on May 31st
