Julija Adlesic, a citizen of Slovenia, was sent to prison after she and her boyfriend cut off her hand to receive a large insurance payout.
There were reports that the couple cut her hand off using a circular chain saw before they filed some disability claim to receive the payout—totaling $1 million. In all, they claimed five insurance policies.
The couple was going to receive the stipends in a partial lump-sum and monthly payments until they got caught. Adlesic was sentenced to two years in prison, while the judge gave her boyfriend a three-year sentence.
The 22-year-old woman remains broke and now handless with a two-year prison sentence.
Some may say that they’re young and stupid; however, I’d argue that they both need a mental sanity check.
