Could you imagine having a wife, super mom, entrepreneur, and author on your list of achievements in life? Those are only a few achievements that Theresa Bowe has reached in her life. Not only is she the wife of former NFL Player Dwayne Bowe, but she’s also a woman of resilience and strength. Bowe confessed that she was sexually molested when she was younger on the unscripted relationship series OWN’s Love Goals with that strength and stability.
When confessing the traumatizing childhood memory with viewers at home for the first time and her husband, that moment kickstarted a journey filled with setting new goals, teaching boundaries, and many other things.
Alongside her husband, the Bowe’s created a nonprofit foundation titled 82 Ways (the 82 referring to Dwayne’s jersey number). They were starting the nonprofit to recognize that people’s needs and passions change, and they wanted to be prepared for the changing times that often change necessities in people’s lives. When two people with huge hearts come together, it’s only bound for them to create beautiful things that not only help them grow as people but help others grow as well. Their program focuses on education, special needs kids, child sexual abuse, back-to-school funding, community building, and government assistance for underserved communities.
With one of their program focus points being child sexual abuse and Bowe being a sexual abuse survivor, Bowe started something new with the right amount of research. She decided to educate little children about their boundaries for themselves when it comes to the possibility of sexual abuse in their household and places like schools, camps, etc. Bowe created the educational movement of Don’t Touch Me. The Don’t Touch Me movement is an educational platform geared to teach kids about child sex abuse prevention at an early age. This movement focuses on educating children on what to do and say in the event of being faced with a predator in their home or life. “Don’t Touch Me” also helps kids find their voice, with a particular emphasis on those who may not have one. The program also offers other educational viewpoints like
- The Safe Stop Program creates a network of trusted adults worldwide to give children the support they need. Having someone who will listen and help is crucial for prevention.
- Speaking Engagements: “Don’t Touch Me” specializes in coaching children and adults to prevent child sexual abuse.
- Special Attention: For the kids that can’t communicate, “DON’T TOUCH ME” becomes their voice and resource for the proper education. Bringing awareness to children with special needs.
- Educational Platforms: The academic programs will include children’s books, elementary school curriculums, lesson plans, and workshops.
Due to the program being geared towards spreading awareness and educating anyone about sexual abuse done to children, Bowe took it upon herself to create a children’s book that also teaches and spreads awareness on the subject. The book is titled “My Mommy’s Boyfriend.” It illustrates and educates young readers on a topic that could be hard for them to talk about. That topic being sexual abuse.
Bowe plans to add more children’s books dedicated to bringing awareness to sexual abuse to her collection. One book highlighting sexual abuse that could happen between siblings in a household. Another future book she’s writing will center around sexual abuse happening to young boys, just to highlight the importance of being educated on young boys being victims of sexual abuse.
While being an author is only one of her vast responsibilities, she does juggle being in the real estate business, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and even having her own networking event for other women entrepreneurs in the world. Her networking event “Heels and Motivation” was established to encourage women to walk with a purpose. The event has been hosted in several cities like Atlanta to even Dallas.
The positivity that spews from the event displays how wonderful it is to be around women searching for networking opportunities, a motivational push, or even newer friends. The byline for Heels and Motivation being “recognizing the power behind a pair of heels”. She is obviously, showing that women can be just as powerful no matter how high their heels are. With Bowe being the face for this event, it matches well with the byline. With her brilliant mind and unique nature.
Bowe will be hosting her extravagant Heels and Motivation networking event on August 29th in Bowie, MD, if you’re located in the DMV area. For more information, you could visit her Instagram or the official Eventbrite information page.
