Fast forward to this past August when it was announced that the Belgian designer was taking over Calvin Klein, and everyone is excited about what Raf Simons has in store for us on February 10th as he takes over as the new Chief Creative Officer for Calvin Klein. Simons will be putting together a dual men’s and women’s collection.
Calvin Klein has always been a relatively popular fashion brand in pop culture. From the 90s ads with Mark Wahlberg and Kate Moss, to Justin Bieber modeling Calvin Klein underwear in ad campaign, to presently with the #MyCalvins campaign featuring some of the most influential people in today’s urban culture from Zoe Kravitz, Frank Ocean, Young Thug, and etc.
All eyes will be on Raf Simmons next month as he will be wearing a lot of hats for the Calvin Klein brand. Those hats include head of global marketing and communications which will include Calvin Klein Collection, Calvin Klein Platinum, Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Jeans, Calvin Klein Underwear and Calvin Klein Home brands.
The Previous Creative Director of Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa did a remarkable job of shifting the Calvin Klein brand in the direction of young millennials. It will be interesting to see if Raf Simons builds upon that or shift the brand in a direction that better suits the classic image of the brand that Calvin Klein created or whether or not he will morph it in a brand new direction. One thing for certain, Raf Simons is definitely the right man for the job.
