Artist, Swae Lee, is proving that he is more than just a rapper.
One half of the duo that took over in 2015, Rae Sremmurd, is adding to his resume by way of becoming a fashion designer. Lee announced a gender-neutral fashion and shoe line in partnership with Guiseppe Zanotti.
They may seem like an unlikely collab, but Zanotti truly has a certain admiration for Lee and his style. “What drew me to Swae Lee is his fearlessness,” said Zanotti. “He’s able to straddle different worlds—tough and soft; luxury and street—effortlessly and naturally. He has an unbelievably authentic touch.”
Lee says that he wants to inspire others to embrace being different and set a new tone for fashion. “A lot of rappers are fucking scared to wear shit. They want to think the old ways and put a limit on that shit. I’m not scared to be different.”
Lee debuted the line at Saks Fifth Avenue over Super Bowl weekend and spoke on how he and the other half of Rae Sremmurd, Slim Jxmii used to admire Guisseppe when they first broke into the rap game.
“Even growing up, we used to rap about Giuseppes. Everybody in the hood wanted them. We couldn’t afford it, so you were a real high-end dude if you wore Giuseppes. You were going to make a lot of noise and turn heads if you came through wearing them,” Lee says.
He is really excited about the work that he and Guiseppe are doing and creating something that reflects his vision.
The shoes are available for purchase in most luxury retail stores as well as in select Guiseppe Zanotti boutiques.
