Style Fashion Week NY S/S 2018 took place this year at the Intrepid Museum. The three day event featured everything that you come to expect from the good folks behind Style Fashion Week such as dazzling designs, guest celebrity front row and model appearances, and great musical performances from some of the best upcoming names in Music with one of them being a TUC Magazine NEXT UP alumn (more on that later). Here is our official recap of some of the best moments from Style Fashion Week NY Spring/Summer 2018.
Day 1. September 7, 2017
Day 1 featured a star studded lineup of designers but my favorites of the day were the designs from Malan Breton (Pictured left) and Jessie Zhao. Malan Breton kicked off the day with a jaw dropping collection that featured a color story of black, white, gold, navy blue, and red mixed in with multi colored digital floral print gowns. The collection contained a little bit of everything from white lace dresses with embroidered flowers and feathers, ruffled tops, and gold metallic trench coats with floral patterns on the sleeves.

Jessie Zhao’s SS 2018 collection featured 12 floral digital printed silk dresses ranging in styles from strapless, full sleeve , thin strap dresses, ruffle dresses, and open neckline dresses cut at mid-sleeve.

Day 2. September 8 , 2017
Day 2 kicked off with a runway presentation from designer, Romeo Hunte. The notable highlight from the presentation included the backless denim mini dress. Other notable designs from the day included styles from Adriana Sahar which had a heavy influence of cheetah and tiger prints throughout the collection. Other notable favorites of mine from Saturday’s lineup includes designs from Chicago Playground and the always entertaining Eddie Eddie by Billy Tommy.
Chicago Playground was my favorite collection from Day 2. It was a collection that stayed true to its Chicago roots while paying homage to one of the greatest artist from the city, Kanye West. I mentioned in my Instagram post (@ladalethefashionisto) that the presentation gave me Kanye West’s “College Dropout to Graduation vibes”. Well…. allow me to further explain my position. Chicago Playground SS 2018 firmly grasped the concept behind Urban Culture with it’s fusion of Hip Hop and Fashion with a collection that stays true to the integrity of the brand with an artistic presentation that is easy to grasp but yet hard to add originality to which the team at Chicago Playground was successfully able to pull off.
Eddie Eddie by Billy Tommy is perhaps the greatest parody in the fashion industry and I say that with the utmost respect. You always know going into his show that you are going to get an energetic show that doesn’t take itself too seriously and that in itself is the beauty of fashion. The brand promotes the concept of style over fashion and free artistic expression as promoted by the continuous verse of “Turn up for the weekend” in the opening intro performance. The collection itself featured pretty basic urban fashion pieces from hoodies and crewneck sweaters with captions on the chest that reads phrases such as “Members only… Open to the public”, “Link in bio”, “Hall Monitor”, and numerous others.
Day 2 also featured notable performances from some of the brightest names in music that I have a feeling you will know of soon enough such as Symon and NEXT UP alumn, Rilan.
Symon performed notable tracks such as “Say” which is a track that is a play on words of her name and a track that you can’t help but dance to as well as the promo song for Style Fashion Week’s BLK water sponsor, “I Never Do”. Symon is an artist with great stage presence and beauty and we look forward to what this newly signed Sony records recording artist does NEXT.
Rilan filled the prime-time slot of 9pm and wowed all in attendance with his amazing stage presence, choreography, and voice. I am on record of saying that if Lady Gaga and the late great George Michaels would’ve had a love child, the end result would be Rilan. He is simply an amazing performer ! He performed original tracks such as “Kryptonite”, “Chemical”, “I’m not Sorry”, “Sad Sad City”, and a blast from the 90’s with his rendition of Ginuwine’s late 90’s hit, “Pony”. Simply put, Rilan is an artist that you have to see live to truly appreciate his artistry.
Day 3. September 9 , 2017
Day 3 was all about the kids as designers Janelle Funari, KK Swimwear, Linda Gail, Elena Collection, Janay Deann, Ydamys Simo (pictured above), Michelle Ann, and Piu Piu Amore blessed the stage with their kids wear designs.
Day 3 also featured a mix of streetwear designs as well from designers Lord Burchen , Brian Wood , and a collection that already has you anticipating summer time on the beach next year from Adrian Alicea (pictured above)

Overall, Style Fashion Week NY was an enjoyable experience and we can’t wait til next year’s Fall/Winter 2018 next February.
