It’s almost that time of year again. Fall is almost among us, and it’s pretty common knowledge that fall is one if not the best season for fashion. Time for people to start tucking away all their linen shirts, sandals, and board shorts for hoodies, overshirts, and cargo pants. Two words to describe this season: cool weather and layers. The start of fall is great weather to start layering all the pieces you’ve been collecting over the summer. Here are some fall essentials you should have in your rotation this fall.
New Balances
With the resurgence of the dad shoe a couple of years ago in the late 2010s, it’s being proven that the craze isn’t just a trend but somewhat of a staple now. With the newfound attention New Balance received from the reaction from the release of the New Balance and Aime Leon Dore 550 collab the brand started to attract a younger audience with the wide array of models they have. With all the models and colorways, it’s not a question that a New Balance sneaker is essential. Models like the 993,2002R,991, and 550s have become front-runner options for people looking for a stylish, comfy sneaker that can be dressed up and down.
Casual Tailored Trousers
If you’re someone that wants to stand out from the crowd of straight-leg Levi 501s and cargo pants, tailored trousers may be the way to go for the cooler weather. The era of casual tailored outfits are looking to make a comeback this upcoming fall. People are looking for more comfort in their outfits. This classic style can be dressed up or down when it comes to what you build around the pants. You can pick up a pair fairly easily. The Japanese brand Uniqlo has a lot of options from pleated trousers to tapered fit trousers. J.Crew and Banana Republic also have a wide selection of trousers to choose from as well.
A Good Vest
A good vest can take your outfit up a notch in the season of layers. The sweater vest has been a piece that has gained more and more attention from the masses with the help of Tyler the Creator and his mix of casual tailoring outfits he began to wear in early 2018. A workwear vest has also been a piece sought after by everyone from thrift stores and flea markets to Depop.
With the surge of workwear becoming a uniformed look in the past couple of years, the workwear vests are perfect layering pieces for something casual. Staple brands like Carhartt and Dickeis have great workwear vest options. An old faithful is a clean, simple puffer vest. These can be paired with a suitable hoodie or long sleeve if you’re going for a more casual look.
Sherpa Jackets
Something new that has been catching steam over social media is sherpa coats. These coats have been seen over fashion TikTok and probably on your Instagram explore page. Many brands have started to create their own perspective on the sherpa jacket and the material in general. Stussy’s new F/W22 collection had four variations of a sherpa jacket and vest. These jackets will keep you warm as it gets cooler and are great to be paired with good cargo pants to create a relaxed, comfy outfit. You can find these jackets almost anywhere really. Backcountry, Patagonia, Coach, and L.L. Bean have a wide array of colors to pick from.
Adidas Sambas
With resellers charging an arm and a leg for highly sought-after Jordans and Air Force ones going up in retail price, people are trying to find another affordable, stylish sneaker to pair with an outfit this fall. It seems like the Adidas Sambas are becoming those shoes. This older silhouette caught a lot of attention on social media with the simplicity of the model and the ability to complement virtually any outfit. With a price tag of only $75 the model has become a favorite to wear in the summertime, but looks to carry into the fall season. These shoes add simplicity and a more uniform look to any casual outfit. I’ve seen them paired with any kind of pants you can think of and I haven’t seen a bad outfit with these on feet. With the hype growing, I say grab a pair while you can before the price skyrockets.
Knit Sweaters
Lastly, knit sweaters aren’t some new trend, but more so a staple when it comes to layering in the cooler seasons. Crew sweaters can add so much to your outfit. This upcoming fall season, I’m seeing more use of different colors when it comes to sweaters and tops in general. You will probably be seeing more yellows, hunter green, brown, etc. A nice sweater can be layered with a polo or business shirt underneath for a more collegiate prep look. If you want to keep it casual, just wearing it as is can add a lot to your outfit. Brands like: Uniqlo, Aimé Leon Dore, Diesel, and Madewell have a great selection with multiple styles in various colors.
