Hot 97 took over Met Life Stadium in New Jersey for yet another year in a row to host their annual hip-hop concert, Summer Jam. And just like every other year, this year’s lineup was insane. The sold out event housed several east coast artists in the music industry like Faith Evans, Lil Kim, Cardi B, Remy Ma, Queen Latifah, Desiigner, Meek Mill, Young M.A., Juelz Santana, A$AP Rocky, and Joey Badass, as well as Migos, DJ Khaled, Tory Lanez, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, French Montana and many more.
Summer Jam was able to meet the taste of everyone in the audience, offering a little bit of everything, from old school hip-hop, EDM and trap music, rap, r&b, reggae, and soca. Remy Ma took a stand for female emcees in the game during her set, bringing some of the hottest female rappers out to show off why they’re just as powerful and capable of achieving what the men have in the industry. They also came for Nicki Minaj, as her image was plastered on the screen behind them. Dave East touched the stage and brought out his mom during his performance. Legendary Hot 97 radio host Funkmaster Flex lit the stage with Casanova, Fat Man Scoop, A Boogie, Juelz Santana, Fetty Wap, Meek Mill, and Tory Lanez. Konshens, Charly Black, and Shaggy flew to the states from the Caribbean to give off a nice island vibe. And of course one of the most amazing artists and business man known for having the most features on his records and infamous snapchats, DJ Khaled, had to come through and bless the stage Migos and 2 Chainz. Even his son Asahd made a cameo.
Although there were a couple rising stars in the building performing their most popular, new tracks, Hot 97 didn’t forget to leave out where it all began. They brought it all the way back to the late 1900’s in remembrance of the late Notorious B.I.G. Recently marking 20 years since his passing, Jadakiss, Lil’ Kim, Faith Evans, 112, Total, Mase, and Bone Thugs N Harmony took the stage to pay a tribute to the artist following a speech from Dougie Fresh. It felt like a good ol’ throwback jam.
