Craig Mack is best known for his ‘Flava In Ya Ear’ record and being one of Sean Comb’s, aka Puff Daddy, first artist on the Bad Boy label. This song helped build Bad Boy and is a very important song in the rap game. This song’s beat is still used today especially when BET does their cypher for the Hip Hop Awards. Unfortunately, 47-year-old Craig Mack passed away on March 12, peacefully, in his home in Walterboro, SC. Doctors say the cause of his death was heart failure.
Mack was born in Trenton, New Jersey and raised in Long Island, New York. As a teen, he began rapping with the name of MC EZ. He released one single called ‘Just Rhymin’ back in 1988 but it wasn’t until Mack met with Puffy that his career took off. They met at the Mecca nightclub, located in NYC, where Puffy offered Mack a record deal. Mack then became the first artist to release music on the Bad Boy label leading him to record ‘Flava In Ya Ear’. The record earned a Grammy nomination and went No.1 on Billboard’s rap song charts. Mack then went to release his album “Project: Funk Da World.
In his recent days, producer Erick Sermon said that he and Mack were working on an album before Mack’s days were cut short. Though he was involved in rap, Mack had disappeared and became very religious going, to church most of the time. Since he became religious, according to producer Alvin Toney, the world didn’t get to see or enjoy the talent he had.
Craig Mack will truly be missed and will forever live on as a rap legend. Rest in peace.
