In Hollywood gossip is just as prevalent as apple trees in an orchard; so hearing fake news regarding celebrities is pretty normal. What’s more shocking is how many people believe gossip, and people’s misinterpretation of events. According to Vibe Magazine, footage of Meghan The Stallion and Justin Timberlake shows a supposed altercation between the two artists backstage at the the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. A video surfaced online showing Justin approaching Meghan to say something “to which she offers an animated response and points her finger at him before looking away,” also according to Vibe Magazine.
According to HipHopDX, a backstage source who witnessed the exchange told Variety Magazine, that there was “zero fight.” “He said, “It’s so nice to meet you,” and she said, “No, no this don’t count, this don’t count. We gotta meet proper.” The source claimed, “It was very cute.” “A second eyewitness added: “Meg loves Justin. She was saying, ‘No, no, no, we’ve never met before.’ It was their first time meeting and she was excited,” also according to HipHopDX.
To clear the air up even more, “Megan Thee Stallion posted a TikTok later that evening with her and Justin Timberlake together smiling and having a good time.” She wrote in the caption: “I just talk with my hands lol” and “See ya next time @JustinTimberlake.” Meghan attended the VMAs to perform her and fellow rapper Cardi B’s single “Bongos”, while Justin reunited with his former band “NSYNC” to present the “Best Pop Video Award”, according to Vibe Magazine. According to Teen Vouge, if you watch the video closely you can see Justin’s former bandmate Joey Fatone laughing, which according to the magazine is a big indication that it was a comical/lighthearted interaction instead of a negative one.
The VMAs has been known for “pop culture drama”, it showcased everything from Courtney Love crashing Madonna’s red carpet interview, to Nicki Minaj asking Miley Cyrus “what’s gud”, to Kanye West snatching Taylor Swift’s microphone, according to The A.V. Club. The VMA’s is known for controversial moments.
