Rap star Nicki Minaj is known not only for her sick rhymes, but also for her charitable heart. She had offered to pay the college tuition of a 14-year-old Chicago native who shot and killed a man named Jeremy Brown after witnessing him getting into a violent altercation with his mother Carlishia Hood punching her in the head at a restaurant, according to Complex Magazine. Nicki Minaj commented on the issue on her Instagram live Tuesday, saying: “That 14-year-old boy that backed dat hammer out when dat grown ass man was punching his mother in the face as if she were a MAN; is a true hero. If he wants to go to college, I’d love to help. It’s what ANY son should’ve done for their MOTHER. She raised a dope kid & should be so proud. Also, God knew b4 she knew; that she’d be attacked that day & made sure they had protection on DECK. God is GOOD”, all according to Complex Magazine.
The teen and his mother were charged with murder shortly after the incident, but the charges have since been dropped, according to Vibe Magazine. June 18 at a fast food restaurant known as the “Chicago Maxwell Street Express” a surveillance video shows Hood and Brown getting into an altercation over ordering food. Hood allegedly was in the car when his mother texted him to come into the restaurant and shoot Brown, all according to Vibe Magazine. Brown told her to “get her food” and then threatened to “knock her out” before punching her, according to NBC News Chicago.
Nicki Minaj supported the young man in his decision to defend his mother as seen on her Instagram Live, calling him a “hero”. A self-proclaimed “generous queen” Minaj, is indeed known for her generosity; she “has paid more than $18,000 to at least 8 students who needed help with loans, repayments, tuitions, and books”, according to CNN News. In a May 7th 2017, tweet she said: “Show me straight A’s that I can verify w/ your school and I’ll pay it. Who wants to join THAT contest?!?! (shrug emoji) Dead serious. Shld [should] I set it up?”, all according to CNN News.
Speaking of her arrest, Hood said, “I’ve experienced pain in many ways that I would never have thought.” ”What happened to me was totally unnecessary. Never in a million years would I have imagined being brutally attacked, beaten and being arrested”, also according to NBC News.
Hood is thankful the charges have been dropped as she said, “I am thankful that the Cook County State’s Attorney dismissed the case”, according to The Daily Mail. Attorney Kim Foxx said in a statement, “Based upon the facts, evidence, and the law, we are unable to meet our burden of proof in the prosecution of these cases”, also according to The Daily Mail.
Kudos to Nicki and all the other celebrities who are generous with their affluence. Self-defense is not murder, and defending oneself as well as others is super important. Deadly force should obviously be someone’s last option, but whenever it is 1,000% necessary one should do so.
