As the trial for Derek Chauvin continues and social media reacts to the tragic events that took place last summer, legendary singer and actress Cher was put into the hot seat regarding a tweet she posted on her official Twitter.
In the now-deleted tweet, Cher stated, “Was talking with Mom & She Said ‘I Watched Trial Of Policeman Who Killed George Floyd, & Cried,” she wrote in the now-deleted tweet. “I said ‘Mom, I Know This Is Gonna Sound CRAZY, But.. I Kept Thinking…..Maybe If I’d Been There,…I Could’ve Helped.”
Cher received a ton of backlash from Twitter users after the tweet was posted. Twitter users criticized her for making George Floyd’s death about herself. They also criticized her for having white savior complex. Which white savior complex refers to a white person who provides help to non-white people in a self-serving manner.
If the fire fighter EMS who tried to intervene didn’t succeed, you sure had no chance. What a post!! Mindboggling. Do you think you have some kind of magical power? Police would not allow anyone to interfere in their business.

On April 3rd, Cher addressed the controversy around the tweet, but did not immediately apologize. This caused her to get even more backlash for the original tweet that she previously tweeted. “Wrestled With This Twt, Because I Thought some ppl wouldn’t understand, Or Believe an Entertainer Could have Honest emotions about a human Being, suffering & Dying, even if It’s Only Shown On tv,” she wrote.
Wrestled With This Twt, Because I Thought some ppl wouldn’t understand, Or Believe an Entertainer Could have Honest emotions about a human Being, suffering & Dying, even if It’s Only Shown On tv. You Don’t Know What I’ve Done,Who I Am,Or What I Believe.I CAN,I HAVE,& I WILL..HELP

However, 2 hours later, Cher returned to Twitter to apologize for her tweets regarding George Floyd. Realizing that the words she tweeted weren’t the most appropriate thing to say during the climate of the trial for Derek Chauvin.
I Just got off phone With Friend Karen.Told her what Happened,& Realized,You Can Piss Ppl Off,& Hurt Them By Not Knowing Everything That’s”NOT Appropriate”To Say.I know Ppl Apologize When They’re In a Jam,BUT🤚🏼TO GOD🙏🏼,IM TRULY SORRY If I Upset AnyOne In Blk Community.I Know My❤️

In the wake of social injustices being protested not only in the streets of cities, but also on social media, many people should be careful about what they post regarding people like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the list goes on. Especially celebrities due to their high influence on social media websites.
