On January 14th, Enjoi Lux creators Alaina Reid and Deborah Holder and the Hair Icon Shiree McClendon partnered with Essence magazine to present “Short Hair Don’t Care” which was an event in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn, NY that proved as the perfect opportunity to gain a vast amount of hair inspiration for women who want to change their style or looking to add life back to their tresses.
As well as being hosted by the co-founder of The Cut Life Tahira Joy Wright, the runway event and hair care vendors aimed to give short haired beauties of all shades, textures, and walks of life the platform to celebrate the liberation and empowerment of having shorter hair.
While continuously bringing the passion and vigor of The Cut Life into the perspective of hair freedom, Wright shared some of her own personal highlights on her hair journey as the models hit the runway showcasing bold to classic, buzz cut to bob and natural t relaxed hairstyles in a unique and innovative way. In addition, Shiree McClendon performed a “blind” hair cut demonstration on a model live from the runway stage, as well as using a non-wire flat iron to straighten the hair.
Moreover, there were so many different booths/ vendors to showcase women’s beauty in hair and fashion, tasty food and Sociologie Wine to sip and nibble on, as well as a diverse array of music to compliment the ambiance from hip-hop to reggae and afro beatz.
All in all, “Short Hair Don’t Care” is undoubtedly enriching and bountiful in the ability to empower women to realize that they can still slay if they don’t have hair or whatever other hair that is present as well, and a platform to network further promoting the ability to see one’s own beauty and confidence on an intimate and welcoming atmosphere.
