On Sunday, April 14, 2019, the late Ermias Asghedom also known to the world as Nipsey Hussle was honored with a basketball court location in his hometown of Los Angeles. Nipsey spent a lot of his time trying to rebuild the Slauson Crenshaw community and this where this basketball court is located. The actual location of the basketball court is on the corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and 60th street.

Create Academy was behind this beautiful piece of art to honor one of the greats of our time Nipsey. To be direct Nick Ansom who is the CEO of Venice Basketball League was the one who started this project. He had a personal relationship with Ermias and wanted to do this to continue his legacy. A lot of hard work and time was put into this art. Gustavo Zermano was the one who painted this beautiful mural to honor Nipsey and to pay his respect to the family.
Nipsey’s family such as his father Dawit Asghedom and his sister Samantha Smith were present for the unveiling of this mural. And some of his close friends were in attendance as well.

I think it was great for them to do this because he stood for the empowerment of his community. And I also believe that it’s great that for years to come, people can come to this beautiful court and be reminded of what he did for the community and who he was as a person.
