Fashion houses are gearing up to drop their upcoming pre-fall and winter collections for 2021 for the next coming year, and Kim Jones and Dior are trying not to disappoint. Coming off of a hit Jordan brand & Dior Collaboration, Dior is looking to keep the collections coming, and Kim Jones has to do it again. With this upcoming collection, Kenny Scharf will be a collaborator with this pre Fall collection this time around. Dior has had a lot of artist collaborations over the years. From Shawn Stussy to Raymond Pettibon, their catalog is really diverse of artist collabs. Scharf’s colorful and loud artwork will be on many ready to wear items, bags, accessories, and footwear. Scharf’s bright, colorful street art started to capture eyes in The ’80s when street art began to merge into the art scene.
Kim Jones tends to have a niche to highlight a contemporary artist with his collections. The real question is can this collaboration make its way over from art galleries to people purchasing it and wearing the pieces like art? Scharf isn’t new to showcasing his work through fashion. In the past years, he has done collaborations with The Hundreds, ZARA, and, G-Shock. Despite us being in a pandemic, Scharf has still showcased his art pieces in different art spaces. This collection has real fashion heads looking to see what this collab can do for both Dior and Scharf. I feel as though this collection will live up to the hype for people who really like the artistry of fashion. The pre-fall 2021 collection will debut on Dior’s website on December 8th.
