When it comes to advising on careers, seeking out mentorships is the sure thing to do on your path to success. Although this concept is straight forward, conflictions arise in how to go about managing your time and connecting with people on the same path as you. To figure out the sure fire way to network, below are five ways to exert your magic and help build your professional trajectory:
1) While you gain inspiration, give back
One of the simplest ways to do this is by joining a mentorship program where you get to work with younger people. In this, you can see and learn that many opportunities that are exposed to you, help you open your eyes to the creativity that you have, as well as others.
2) Make a Key Introduction
In this technological age, the members only societies in place for network cause a bit of a rift. The distance between A and B need to shorten. Because personal branding is key in society, who you know is even more essential. When you go ahead and introduce someone that is as smart and hardworking as you are to a very important contact, then it reflects positively on you, the person you introduced to the contact, as well as the contact’s perception of you which is all in good standing.
3)Build Something to Help Others
Since being in college, a lot of things arose which really had me searching for role models. For me, when I thought about it, sometimes it’s hard to envision if I could see myself in the same position as the person I looked up to. As a result, I searched for clubs to join as well as considered starting my own organization as well. One thing that resonated with me, is that in running clubs, coaching the next generation of students that will be coming in is crucial in planning, spreading awareness to build a message that can transcend any and everyone to expand their knowledge.
4)Senior Level experience not required
You don’t necessarily need to be a CEO to mentor people. A lot of non-profit organizations such as Together to Empower and the National Center for Women & Information Technology is a good start in connecting high school and college by inspiring them to get involved in their field little by little so the future becomes more apparent.
5)Confidence
Always be confident in yourself and how far you’ve come on your educational journey and the contacts you’ve made along the way from entry level jobs to internships. This is just realizing that your worth is immensely important and noticeable to others.
