In the world of music and art, everything flows endlessly. While many will say today’s music lacks the focus and depth of previous generations, their views are limited. A social media presence often affects how an artist is viewed in the eyes of society. Scanning the charts of Billboard will introduce you to good music. To find undeniable great music that speaks to the soul would require more effort. Beneath the surface, its where artists like Flowerboy continue to thrive and envoke strong emotions.
Flowerboy, an indie Toronto-based singer-songwriter, is all about honesty and vivid warmful imagery. Its themes are reflected within his music and Flowerboy doesn’t shy away from wearing his heart on his sleeves. Flowerboy’s music invites you into his world while allowing space to flourish on your own. It’s something not usually seen in today’s mainstream. Flowerboy uses touches of rap, R&B, and chill pop to convey thoughts of realizations.
Like harmonic Greek sirens, Flowerboy sends very mild shockwaves to the temporal lobe. While his music and production do offer a sense of therapeutic aura, its Flowerboy’s voice that really latches on. In his debut single, “Mornings on VHS,” Flowerboy strips away all worldly possessions to bear heart over a minimal track. It’s the perfect song for early Saturday mornings or last sleep on Sundays. On “90s Baby,” Flowerboy switches gears for a more after-school lite emo-pop track. With keeping in brand with his soft-spoken voice, the track’s production walks just a step behind in unison.
Since 2018, Flowerboy has released a constant flow of singles. Towards the end of the year, Flowerboy released electric guitar infused “Sugarcoat/Couch Surfer.” With “Woodfire Freestyle,” the rap-alt pop track allowed Flowerboy to showcase his unique style of rhyming and flow. After a few more singles at the start of the year, Flowerboy released his debut album, WHAT A MESS, in June. Flowerboy recently released his new single, “2 MUCH.”
