In the age of coronavirus, much of our daily lives have increasingly become digitized. As life slowly returns to a new normal, many of us are still trying to use online platforms to stay in contact with loved ones. Luckily for us, many platforms have added fun group watch features to keep the movie nights going even from a distance. Previously, only Netflix Party and Amazon Prime Video Watch Party, had successfully launched this feature on their platforms. However, as of September 29th, Disney Plus became the latest streaming platform to create a fun, creative way to enjoy movies and tv shows with loved ones.
With the added feature Disney Plus members can enjoy their favorite Disney classics together from any device. While it lacks a chat interface, viewers can share their thoughts by sending each other emoji reactions, which will capture their response to every twist and turn of the upcoming season 2 of The Mandalorian. Although the feature is only currently available in the U.S, the platform is looking to expand the feature to Europe sometime during the fall.
To set up your own GroupWatch session first you must open up the app and click on the movie you’d like to watch. Then, similar to the Netflix Party and Prime Video Watch Party feature, the host would send the link to the other viewers. As of right now, the platform can host up to seven viewers for one GroupWatch. Then, once the links are activated, you’re ready to dive into your next Disney adventure with your friends. While the future of Covid-19 still remains uncertain, features like these give us the opportunity to still share special moments with friends and family, even from a distance.
