A petition made on Change.org called for ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Jesse Williams to be fired from his job because of his controversial but compelling speech at the BET Awards after winning the Humanitarian Award. Jesse spoke about the racial injustice that is happening in America towards black people. He also touches bases on cultural appropriation, black women, and police brutality.
Jesse speech has caused backlash from conservative people such as television host Tomi Lahren and Fox News commentator, Stacey Dash. Now, Jesse is facing a petition that can threaten his job as an actor. The petition was started on July 1, 2016. By Tuesday afternoon the petition gained 11,600 signatures. Williams has been accused of making “a racist, hate speech towards law enforcement and white people.” Petitioners call for Shonda Rhimes, the show’s creator to fire him.
However, Shonda Rhimes does not seem to be bothered by the petition.
Rhimes took to Twitter to give her thoughts on the matter.
Um, people? Boo don’t need a petition. #shondalandrules

The person who started the petition identified herself as Erin Smith. However, the woman refuses to give her race or political beliefs. Smith gave her reasoning behind the request. “If this was a white person making the same speech about an African-American, they would have been fired and globally chastised. The originator goes on to say “Why the one-way street? Why the support for a hater? Why the hypocrisy? #AllLivesMatter”
Jesse is not worried about the petition neither the person who created it. He released this statement on Twitter.
Do not promote empty people & their tantrums. Pure clickbait to gain followers, attention & money, for themselves, not you. Never you.
